Kurashova Re-Education™ for Migraines
Kurashova Re-Education™ is a form of manual therapy, which offers the body mechanical stimulation through highly advanced techniques. These techniques consist of gliding techniques, pressure stretching, kneading and variable vibratory techniques. These techniques are done by the hand of the therapist in direct contact with the skin or through clothing. The techniques described above are able to stimulate the flow to and from the cranial vessels to normalize the circulation.
In working with conditions such as migraine headaches, pain free stimulation gives much better results than painful stimulation. Positive touch will produce positive reflexes as a result:
Reduction of pain
Normalization of blood pressure
Improvement of the immune systems' function
Generation of the healing response
Two thirds of our bodies are comprised of fluids. The use of gliding techniques increases lymph flow, increases blood flow in veins and arteries, increases absorption of liquids in tissues, creates an environment for speedy muscle recovery, and increases absorption of nutrients into the tissues. Most migraine sufferers have very constricted SCM muscles (Sterno-Cleido-Mastoid - the large muscle at the front side of the neck where the carotid artery resides), which has a constricting effect on the carotid arteries. The use of slow vibrational techniques will relax the muscles, peripheral nerves and also the central nervous system.
The Goals and Objectives of Kurashova Migraine Re-Education:
Decrease pain
Decrease neck muscle contraction
Increase venous outflow from the cranial vessels
Improve cranial circulation
Return the patient to normal headache free life
Treatment
General treatment will consist of gliding and vibratory strokes over the neck/shoulder region. These are 12-15 minute treatments done three times per week for 5 weeks. With the beginning treatment, patients should experience a significant decrease in migraine activity, and by the 6th or 7th treatment, should report no recurring headaches. Although some migraine patients will have other types of headaches still occurring during this time, migraines should be gone. It is extremely important to finish the set of treatments in order for the headaches to be dissipated, otherwise, migraines could come back. Some patients with greater stress and patients prone to carry their stress in the neck/shoulder region may have to be placed on a maintenance program done once every 2-6 weeks.
*Please note that this treatment works on migraine headaches, but will not necessarily work on tension, chronic daily, toxic, cluster or sinus headaches. There are, however, other techniques to relieve these types of headaches.
